In the framework of strengthening bilateral cooperation, Prosecutor General of the Republic of Belarus Andrei Shved met with Prosecutor General of the Republic of Cuba Yamila Peña Ojeda in Minsk.
The event was attended by Deputy Prosecutor General of the Republic of Belarus Gennady Dysko, Deputy Prosecutor General of the Republic of Cuba Marcos Caraballo de la Rosa, other prosecutors of both agencies, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps of Cuba.
In his welcoming speech Andrei Shved warmly greeted his Cuban colleagues on the Belarusian soil. He noted that cooperation in the form of mutual visits of delegations of prosecutor’s offices helps to form the most complete picture of a country and its people, as well as approaches to the organization of supervision over the enforcement of legislation in various spheres of life. In particular, touching upon the topic of ensuring national security of each of the countries, including public and economic security, he emphasized the absolute counterproductiveness and inadmissibility of threats against representatives of the authority, sanctions and restrictions in international relations, to which both Cuba and Belarus had been subjected. He spoke about the high social standards in medicine and education in Belarus, the supervision of which is entrusted to the prosecutor’s corps. He informed about the extensive work being carried out in the country to preserve and protect historical memory.
Yamila Peña Ojeda expressed her gratitude for the cordial welcome and support. She had the most favorable impressions of the Belarusian capital and its people. She expressed confidence that the exchange of experience would make it possible to realize cooperation between the prosecutor’s offices at a high level, including in the field of training and professional development of specialists. She elaborated on the topic of informatization of work processes, including the permissible use of artificial intelligence. She agreed on the importance of teaching the younger generation to see events from a deeper and historical perspective.
After discussing a number of issues of the joint work, the colleagues signed the Programme of Cooperation between the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Belarus and the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Cuba for 2025-2026.
Andrei Shved familiarized Yamila Peña Ojeda and the Cuban delegation with the exposition on the genocide of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War.
Then, the colleagues from the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Cuba visited the Institute for Retraining and Qualification Upgrading of Judges, Prosecutors, Courts and Legal Professionals at the Belarusian State University, where they familiarized themselves with the educational process.
At the end of the first day of the visit, the guests also visited the Prosecutor’s Office of the Central District of Minsk, which moved to another building after its reconstruction in July of this year, where the Cuban prosecutors got acquainted with the conditions of service of their Belarusian colleagues at the district level.
The Prosecutor’s Offices of the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Cuba have identified new joint activities to improve their capabilities and develop cooperation for the benefit of protecting the rights and legitimate interests of citizens.
