The Prosecutor General’s Office, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is carrying out systematic work to implement the Law of the Republic of Belarus “On Genocide of the Belarusian People”, aimed at preserving the historical memory of the millions of victims among the civilian population, ensuring the protection of the fundamental values of the Belarusian people, and preventing propaganda and attempts to revive radical nationalist ideologies in modern society.
Employees of diplomatic missions and consular offices of the Republic of Belarus are involved in disseminating reliable information in the above-mentioned areas in the foreign media space.
As part of these activities, Pavel Shidlovsky, Chargé d’Affaires of Belarus in the United States of America and Michael Cunningham, Director of the “Geography of Genocide” project (who actively promotes in the United States the topic of investigating the crimes of genocide of the Belarusian people during the war) took part in the events in Texas dedicated to the Law Day.
In particular, during the special training session of the International Criminal Court Pavel Shidlovsky presented information on the progress of the investigation of the criminal case on genocide of the Belarusian people by the Prosecutor General’s Office. The attention was focused on the importance of preserving historical memory, preventing its distortion and rewriting.
The participants of the forum were presented the book prepared by the Prosecutor General’s Office “Genocide of the Belarusian People. Punitive Operations. Part 1”, containing materials revealing the policy of Nazi Germany for the total extermination of the civilian population of Belarus during the Great Patriotic War.
The event testifies to the readiness of some representatives of the American public to build a constructive dialogue on the mentioned topics.
Such educational projects will become a barrier to attempts to falsify the events and results of the Second World War and will allow the world community to give a fair assessment of the atrocities of Nazi criminals.
