Prosecutor General Andrei Shved took part in the ceremony of awarding the winners of the Belarusian Student Legal Olympiad.

For the 17th time, the best law students of the country have been determined at the Law Faculty of the Belarusian State University.

6 teams out of 12 and 12 individual participants out of 50 reached the final.

The students successfully passed tests and competitions on the following topics:

• drafting of the law enforcement acts;

• response to the citizen's appeal and the response of the notary;

• testing of lawmaking and reconciliation skills;

• drawing up and presentation of a position in a civil court;

• analysis of the case and drawing up of a position in the criminal court;

• virtual inspection of crime scene;

• extracurricular competition for knowledge of professional English vocabulary.

The Olympiad participants’ appearances were evaluated by the jury comprised of the collegiums on civil and criminal cases.

Summing up the results, the Prosecutor General addressed the contestants with a welcoming speech: “In a difficult time, graduates of law faculties join the ranks of civil servants and adequately fulfill the assigned tasks to protect our Fatherland. All of us, lawyers in different posts, must ensure stability in the development of Belarus.”

The head of the supervisory authority cited the example of recent graduates – public prosecutors, who despite numerous threats against them perform their work to a high standard.

“Today the state prosecutor is not just a high-class specialist and a lawyer who knows substantive and procedural law. First of all, this is a person who is well-versed, sophisticated, has a backbone and a resistance to stress,” Andrei Shved emphasized in his speech.
