Fight against corruption – Andrei Shved, Prosecutor General of the Republic of Belarus, participated in the 18th meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Member States

The 18^th annual meeting of Prosecutors General from member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (hereinafter – the SCO) was held in Tashkent via videoconference. Anti-corruption activity was on the meeting’s agenda. 

Member states Prosecutors General from India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Pakistan, Russia, Tadzhikistan, Uzbekistan were joined by Prosecutors General from the observer states, in particular, Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran, Mongolia, and the dialogue partners – Azerbaijan, Armenia and Cambodia. Heads of the Secretariat and the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure and the President of the International Association of Prosecutors were among the invited guests. 

Andrei Shved, Belarusian Prosecutor General, headed the delegation of the Republic of Belarus, who had been given the floor by the CIS Executive Committee.  

For reference: The SCO’s key priorities include strengthening of mutual trust and good will among its members, facilitation of effective political, trade and economic, scientific and practical, cultural cooperation, as well as interactions in the spheres of education, energy, transportation, tourism and environmental protection, implementation of joined peacekeeping activities, provision of regional security and stability, establishment of a new democratic, just and rational international political and economic world order. 

The forum’s participants exchanged their opinions on modern supervision practice and effective preventive measures to detect and eradicate corruption. 

In his speech, Andrei Shved outlined what anti-corruption measures have already been implemented in Belarus and how the relevant legislation is developing. 

From the Prosecutor’s point of view, one of the most vital aspects of anti-corruption activity is a coherent work of the law-enforcement structures. “The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Belarus is willing to work together on that matter. I’m convinced that today’s meeting, even though it’s a digital one, will be a milestone for the development of systemic cooperation and is sure to strengthen our joined anti-corruption efforts,” he summarized. 

The Heads of International delegations showed their gratitude towards the host party – Prosecutor General’s Office of Uzbekistan – for the high level of preparation and management. Everyone pointed out that the forum was held in the atmosphere of trust and mutual interest in international cooperation. Among the results, the participants emphasized the importance to study and implement groundbreaking experience in the fight against corruption. 

The next regular SCO Anti-Corruption Forum will take place in India in 2021.
