VASILEVICH Grigory Alekseevich

Doctor of Law (1994), Professor (1998), honourable lawyer of the Republic of Belarus (1994). Grigory Vasilevich was born 1955 in Minsk. He began his professional career as a worker. Served in the Soviet Army. Graduated from the Belarusian State University, faculty of law, in 1980 and than continued his postgraduate studies. From 1980 to 1986, Vasilevich taught at the faculty of law of the Belarusian State University. After 1986, he worked in the Secretariat of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Belarus: as the deputy chief of the law department and than, from 1989 to 1994, as the chief of the mentioned department. In April 1994, he was elected a Judge of the Constitutional Court, from January 1997 to 2008 - Chairman of the Constitutional Court.
By the presidential Decree dated January 11, 2008 № 18 he was relieved of the post of the Judge and the Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus because of expiration of his term of office and retirement.
By the presidential Decree dated February 08, 2008 № 72 he was appointed Prosecutor General of the Republic of Belarus.
State counsellor of justice of the 1st class.
From the date of the election of the Constitutional committee (July 1990) to March 1994 he was a member, deputy administrator of the working group on preparation of the draft constitution. Has a higher qualifying class of Judge.
Author of 50 books, more than 20 are individual works. There are in co-authorship over 10 textbooks and training appliances. He wrote more than 600 articles, among them newspaper articles. On appointment of Grigory A. Vasilevich Prosecutor General of the Republic of Belarus
In concordance with the Article 84 Clause 9 of the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus Grigory Alekseevich Vasilevich is appointed Prosecutor General of the Republic of Belarus with the further consent of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus.
Grigory A. Vasilevich is given herewith the class rank of State counselor of justice of the 1st class.
